I received a Medela Freestyle Breastpump Deluxe Kit, lanolin, and nursing pads  to facilitate this post. I was not compensated monetarily, and all opinions are honest and are my own.

When I found out my sister-in-law Lauren (who really might as well just be my sister – love her!) was expecting her first baby, I immediately started thinking of the gear she’d need. As any mom can tell you, there is so much out there on the market and it can be hard to weed through it to find quality products.

Medela is a brand many people equate with breastfeeding and pumping. I remember it being the first brand I really heard about as an expectant mom, and it’s got a great reputation for well-made pumps and more. When I was in the hospital with each of my kids, I used a hospital-grade Medela pump – and loved it, so it was a no-brainer that I’d recommend a Medela pump for Lauren. The Medela Freestyle Breastpump Deluxe Kit has everything a new mom could want – check out all it comes with:

Medela-Pump-Parts

It includes:

  • 1 – black microfiber tote bag
  • 1 – lithium ion battery
  • 1 – AC adaptor/charger
  • 1 – insulated cooler bag and ice pack
  • 4 – 5 oz/150 mL BPA-free breastmilk bottles and lids
  • 1 – double pumping kit
  • 2 – medium (24 mm) PersonalFit breastshields
  • 2 – large (27 mm) PersonalFit breastshields
  • 2 – Freestyle breastshield connector bodies

  • Breastfeeding Information Guide

The Medela Freestyle Breastpump Deluxe Kit retails for $399.99, and can be found at stores like Target, or online at Amazon. Between the quality of this pump and all you get along with the kit, it’s worth every single penny.

The pump is small and lightweight, but powerful. It includes a rechargeable battery so you can easily take the pump with you on-the-go and you’re not having to constantly buy new batteries. The pump has a digital display, timer, and backlight (crucial for middle-of-the-night pumping sessions).

The pump is incredibly easy to set up, and it’s not intimidating to use (which I think is really important, especially for first-time moms).

Medela-In-Bag

Did I mention the kit came in a cute (and nondescript) black bag? It’s so convenient for taking with you, and it doesn’t scream “I’ve got a breast pump in here!”

Another thing that is absolutely wonderful about this kit is the cooler bag and ice pack – it’s made to perfectly fit four bottles of breastmilk, and it’s a pretty ingenious solution for those moms who need to pump at work, or while away from home.

You can screw a nipple right onto the bottles you pump into, making it – again – super convenient, which is a life-saver.

Medela-Bottle

See those straps behind the bottle in the picture above? You can attach the pump to any nursing bra or cami and have hands-free pumping. SO smart of Medela to include this! I didn’t have it years ago when I was pumping with my kids, and I can’t tell you how many times I just sat there because I couldn’t do anything else while pumping and holding the bottles in place.

Medela makes other great breastfeeding products, too:

Their lanolin can help prevent dry skin and cracking that’s so common with breastfeeding or pumping:

And any mom can tell you how absolutely necessary nursing pads are, especially in the early months:

Medela-Pad

Many nursing pads just come in a stack within the box, but Medela thinks ahead to moms on-the-go and has each pad wrapped individually. You can throw several into your diaper bag or pump bag and you’re all set.

Medela also makes an app called My Medela that lets you track sleep, breastfeeding, diaper changes, and more. It helps you solve breastfeeding problems you might be encountering, too. And it’s free! You can download it for the iPhone or an Android phone.

Through all the products Medela offers, it’s clear that they’re a brand thoughtful of what moms really want and need. And it’s a brand I’ll continue to recommend, with confidence, to all new moms and moms-to-be.
