Things I Love Thursday: Glass Containers – Frugal Novice

Things I Love Thursday: Glass Containers

When I’m out shopping (especially at antique or thrift stores) one of my favorite things to look for is glass containers of all shapes and sizes. I don’t even always have a use for them in mind, but I know I’ll find something perfect to use them for. I’ve done pretty well with restraining myself, but here are a few of the ones I’ve bought over the years.

Glass Containers - Bathroom

Here they’re on a wire and glass shelf in our bathroom. I love this little collection because it’s a pretty way to house something really ordinary, and I really like the contrast of the black and white.

This next one is a more recent purchase – I bought it in the fall to put vintage Christmas ornaments in as a table centerpiece. We used it a couple of weeks ago for C’s birthday party, and, well…

Glass Container - Cars

Eventually we’ll replace them with something else. Ideas?

We used to have a hurricane vase filled with shells we’d collected in Florida, but now that vase has been commandeered by Brian.

Glass Container - Legos

It’s actually kind of fun, because when we have people over they often just dive right in and start building.I wouldn’t mind having something pretty to display in it again, but such is life when you’re the only female in the house (well, besides the dog, who woefully lacks any home decor interest).

Do you use glass containers in your house? What do you use them for?

What cute ideas! I don’t have that many glass containers except to hold candies, which for some reason they are gone? LOL! :D

    Have a great Thursday!

I am TOTALLY using the lego idea! Love glass jars too, but I haven’t used them for toys.

I was watching Food Network and Down home with the Nelly’s was on. They were making picnic foods which always piques my interest because my hubby and I love to picnic in the park (perfect cheap date). Anyways they made this incredible looking tea that I can’t wait to try and they put ice and the tea in a bunch of covered mason jars. That way it is easy to transport for picnicking. I thought to myself Mason Jars are the perfect glass jars…they can be used for everything.
    Here is the recipe:

Ooh I like that idea, Jacquie! It makes me want to go for a picnic, too. I *think* the boys are getting old enough to where we could manage. :) Thanks for the great idea! I think there’s something inherently charming about glass jars, too – much more than tupperware, anyway.

LOL….I am sure your boys would love a picnic. Running around in a park and then sitting on a blanket to eat lunch in the warm sunshine…ahhhh nothing like it. One of my friends blogged about a recent purchase and I also purchased these Eco-friendly bags that are perfect for lunches and picnicking: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SediluGreen

I am all for being outdoors and enjoying God’s creation. Laying on a picnic blanket with a good book is a wonderful relaxing day. I hope you get a chance to picnic soon. :-)

I don’t use glass but I feel this way about white dishes. I use them for my food and I use them in my plate rack.
I have to ask, Hmmm Jacquie, am I the friend who purchased these echo sandwich bags. Sounds familiar b/c I know I blogged about SediluGreen.
Anyway back to glass. You make it look so nice!

I love what you have done. I am a bit inspired. I have a hurricane glass going unused I am going to find something creative to do with.

I love glass too! My favorite – I found a terrific glass container with a lid at a garage sale for $1.00. My parents had gone on vacation and brought back beautiful shells and rocks for our girls. Instead of putting them away in a box, we placed them, along with some sand and water into the glass container. We added a few drops of bleach to keep it nice and it’s one of my favorite displays.
