Things I Love Thursday: My iPhone

I’m one of those people – I would be lost without my phone, and I always have it with me. Some people hate to feel tethered to their phone, but if I forget mine at home you can be sure I’ll turn around to go back and grab it. I’ve even got a cute little case for it.

Of course I use it for its primary purpose – talking on the phone – and I’m also a BIG texter. Brian always says, “You know, that conversation would take half as much time if you’d just use the phone for what it is meant for!” but I love that I can send exactly what I want to say without the need for small talk. What do you think – do you text? I grew up when AIM first became popular, so maybe that’s part of the appeal of texting to me – it’s got the feel of chatting online.

Aside from actually communicating, my phone serves a million other purposes. I take a ton of photos with it, and have a pretty extensive photo album – over 2,000 photos:

I am absolutely in love with the calendar feature. I set reminders for myself all. the. time. I don’t know if I’d remember to do anything without it!

See? Yesterday I had to buy an apple. For a horse (really!). I’d have totally forgotten if not for the alert from my calendar.

I have a ton of applications on the phone. My personal favorite is Words With Friends (if you play, let me know your name – I’m always looking for new games!) but I also have the Bible, the Weather.com app, Facebook, Tweetdeck, and many toddler games to help us survive any instance of having to sit still and wait. Brian even got one app that lets us use our phones as a remote for our DVR.

Last but not least, I love that I always have a photo of my boys with me wherever I am. If I’m having a stressful day, I can just click my phone and get a glimpse of those two adorable faces, and that makes  just about any day better instantly.

I’m not a big texter and I don’t use a lot of phone minutes, so I didn’t think I needed a full iPhone. But I still really wanted something like it! So my compromise was an iPod Touch.

Lots of fun just like an iPhone, but without the phone (and monthly bill!).

I seriously just got mine yesterday so I’m still looking for great apps. I’d love any suggestions for free toddler games! I have some already but more = better :)

Kacie, I’d definitely recommend Words With Friends if you like Scrabble – there’s a free version (with ads). There’s also a free Photoshop app that lets you do some minimal editing to photos.

Words With Friends sounds like a fun game. It’s cool how you can have several different games going on with different people, right?

I don’t have an iPhone but I think that’s the only “smart phone” that I’d be able to work! We are a totally mac household and I haven’t used a PC in probably 6 years! I am totally not tech savvy – I remember doing a school project in middle school where I wrote my own gwbasic code for a computer program to do a simple addition problem. Old school! My first cell phone was a car phone that had a “purse” unit in the trunk so if I wanted it to be mobile, I had to take the purse out and the handset/receiver from the car and lug all of that around with me! Haha!

I’m returning your visit from the Ultimate Blog Party! Thanks for stopping by!

Yay, Rebecca – another MAC lover!!! :) I have heard rumor here and there that they’re going to open up iPhones to other providers.

Blackberries are better than apples :p

I’m the same way, if I’m on the way somewhere and forget my phone I WILL turn around to get it because my life is essentially on that thing.

iPhone is still AT&T service only but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy one off of the apple site and jailbreak it for other services because they do it all the time.

Yes, it’s addicting, isn’t it? :) I will start a game with you soon! I’m falling behind in my games right now, lol, but work should slow down after this week and then I’ll get back in the swing of things. :)
