Today’s Challenge: Something that bugs you

It’s not often that I get a chance to climb up on my soapbox and complain, so I guess I’ll have to just enjoy this excuse for it. Here are a few of the things that really bug me:

• Tailgating in traffic. Anyone else hate this as much as I do? I do NOT understand the purpose of it, because usually the tailgating happens when I have no way of going any faster anyway. And can I admit that when someone tailgates me it just makes me want to slow down? Yeah, I’m mature like that.

• Entitlement. Brian and I have the conversation every once in a while about how we do not understand the entitled attitudes some people have. That sense of just deserving things drives me nuts, along with the attitude of not wanting to work for something. Our children will suffer benefit from our stance on this throughout their lives, I’m sure, but hopefully we’ll instill a work ethic and a sense of appreciation in them along the way.

• Clutter. I love to be organized and would be a very happy person if my home were always neat and tidy. As anyone with kids knows, though, that’s a virtual impossibility. I’ve learned to live with a little more clutter (and have even grown to embrace some of the kid-related mess, because the mess makers are just that adorable) but there are still times when it just gets to be too much for me and I go on a cleaning extravaganza.

• Telemarketers. I always try to be nice to these people when they call, because I know everyone’s got to work and they’re just doing their job, but I get so tired of sales pitches – especially when they don’t let you fit a word in edgewise to tell them that you need to go, because you’re making dinner for your children who are whining about being hungry and needing food right. this. instant.

So, do any of the things on my list resonate? What bugs you?

Menu Plan Monday – March 21-26

Menu Plan Monday

This is one of those weekends that feels like it didn’t really happen – it flew by way too fast! Friday I was at home because the boys’ day care was closed, and we had an electrician come to do some work in our bathrooms. This was the first time we’ve had any work done on the house. So far we’ve (code: Brian has) done everything ourselves. The projects we needed done were a little more complicated so I’m glad we hired someone! We had an outlet installed in our master bath, and then in both bathrooms we had our ancient ceiling heaters replaced with heater/exhaust/lighting fixtures. I don’t even know how to describe our old heaters other than to say they basically looked like stovetop elements hanging upside down 18″ or so from the ceiling – UG-LY.  Now our bathrooms look much better and I love having additional light in them.

Friday night we had a family night to Chuck E Cheese and the rest of the weekend was spent being productive around the house and running errands. So now it’s Sunday night and it feels like we should still have one more day to the weekend, but at least we’re off to a good start for the week.

Before I share our menu for the week, I’ve got to mention the Chili’s gift card giveaway I’ve got going on right now – just answer one quick question and you’ll be entered to win a $20 gift card! Speaking of food, I’ll finally get to the point of this post. :)

Monday: Leftovers from tonight’s dinner – we had pasta with pesto sauce, and for leftovers I’ll cook some chicken and green beans to go with it.

Tuesday: We’re eating out with some friends, but not sure where!

Wednesday: My mom’s green chile chicken enchilada casserole. We haven’t had this in a while and it makes great leftovers. I’m all about leftovers this week.

Thursday: Did I mention leftovers? We’ll be having them!

Friday: Baked potato pizza – this is a new recipe I put together after tasting this out at a pizza place. To get the recipe you’ll have to read my guest post on Saturday (3/26) over at Saving Dollars and Sense.

Saturday: Chicken teriyaki with brown rice & veggies

Have an absolutely wonderful week, everyone!

Chili’s Wild or Mild Review & Giveaway

WordPress database error: [Table './quadium_wrdp27/wp_postmeta' is marked as crashed and should be repaired]
SELECT post_id, meta_key, meta_value FROM wp_postmeta WHERE post_id IN (2589,2588,2590,2592,2586,2587,2595,2594,2164,2163,2162) ORDER BY meta_id ASC

I was wild.

Yep, that’s right – me. Wild.

With the menu at Chili’s, anyway.

Chili’s has a new “Wild or Mild” menu right now and Brian and I got the chance to go review it. My family loves Chili’s, so this was right up our alley. Seriously, J asks to go to Chili’s any time we pass it! This time we left the boys at our friends’ house (thanks, friends!) and got to enjoy a date night.

On the “Wild or Mild” menu, there’s an equal counterpart in dish options on either side. You can choose from:

  • Kicked Up Queso or Skillet Queso
  • Blazin’ Big Mouth Bites or Big Mouth Bites
  • Jalapeno Chicken Quesadillas or Bacon Ranch Chicken Quesadillas
  • Crispy Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers or Crispy Sweet Maple BBQ Chicken Crispers

We tend to like our food spicy, so we took a walk on the wild side and ordered the Kicked Up Queso, Blazin’ Big Mouth Bites and the Crispy Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers.

The Kicked Up Queso has the regular skillet queso base with chipotle spice, pico de gallo and fire-roasted jalapenos added to well, kick up the flavor a bit. I’ve always been a fan of the skillet queso, and liked this too. What did Brian think?

Brian ordered the Blazin’ Big Mouth Bites for his entree. This consists of four peppercorn-crusted mini burgers with jalapeno-mayo, jalapenos and American cheese. Just like the regular Big Mouth Bites, they’re served with crispy onion strings and homestyle fries.

And I ordered the Crispy Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers. I have had them before and love them, and the spiciness sounded really good so I went ahead and kept with the “wild” theme for the menu.

We loved everything we tried, so much that we decided we’d probably end up ordering the exact same things next time we eat at Chili’s. Brian said the burgers are some of his favorite he’s had because the level of spiciness is just right, and I especially hope they keep the Kicked Up Queso. Speaking of Queso, click the coupon below to sign up for Chili’s e-mail club and you’ll get a coupon for a FREE queso!

Right now Chili’s has a fun promotional site, Shout Out to Eat Out. Go create your Wild or Mild avatar and you’ll be entered in a daily contest to win a $20 Chili’s gift card. The avatar with the most votes at the end of the promotion will win a trip to Vegas (Wild) or Disney (Mild)! Check out my avatar – don’t I look, um… interesting?

You probably noticed the “giveaway” in the title of this post, and are wondering just what I’m giving away. Well, wonder no longer…

One lucky reader will win a $20 gift card to Chili’s so you can try out their great menu items for yourself! This contest is open to all U.S. and Canadian residents. Entries will be accepted until the end of the day (midnight CST) Monday, April 4.

Today’s Challenge: Something I want to do before I die

I have several things on my list. I don’t know that they’ll all happen, but it can’t hurt to dream, right? :)

  • Travel with my family around the US and to Europe
  • (Maybe) have a third child… we’re still trying to decide!
  • Volunteer as a family on a regular basis, and go on a yearly mission trip
  • Own my own business – now, how large-scale it’ll be, we’ll see. I just love the idea of having something that’s started from scratch.
  • Learn to sew proficiently. Learn to build furniture.
  • Have a custom home built for our family, designed just the way we’d want it to be and perfect for us to stay in long-term

What’s on your list?

Say hello to the lucky chosen 3 for this week (and feel free to stop by and give them a little extra love):

Laura at Along for the Ride is just, well, adorable, and so is her blog. Laura’s a Christian and uses her blog as an outlet to share her faith as she writes about things she loves. You’ll find tutorials on DIY craft projects, giveaways, and a link to her etsy shop where she creates great clips and jewelry – the bias tape collection is especially charming.

Sassy Scorp at Single Mama in LA writes about her life with her daughter. She shares her day-to-day experiences and you can get to know her better through her participation in the “Meet Me on Monday” meme, along with posts about weight loss and even some heavier topics like being the loved one of an addict (especially relevant with all of the Charlie Sheen craziness going on lately). She also hosts giveaways and has one live right now!

Be forewarned – don’t visit Treat & Trick on an empty stomach, or before you know it you’ll be craving one of the delicious-looking goodies the author shares! From cakes to more savory options, there are a ton of recipes provided for dishes from a variety of cultures. If you’re ever wanting to try something new, you can find Chinese and Indian recipes to throw into the mix. Just be prepared for an impromptu trip to the grocery store for ingredients!

Now that you know about these 3 wonderful blogs, it’s time for you to join in! Add your family-friendly link below and we’ll see you back here every Friday! And don’t forget, you can get the InLinkz code to share the link list on your blog, too.

All three hostesses appreciate followers through GFC and Twitter, and we’ll follow you back – be sure to leave a comment with your URL and/or Twitter username.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Kiddie Catch-All Review & Giveaway

If you’re a parent, or if you’ve ever driven with children in your car, you know how easy it is for clutter to overtake the back seat. Ally Arnold is a mom and knew this frustration all too well, so she and her mom invented the Kiddie Catch-All. This is a mesh basket that latches on to the side of your child’s car seat, allowing toys, juice and snacks to be right at his or her fingertips.

I got the chance to review the Kiddie Catch-All recently, and actually got to review TWO because they have a buy one, get one free special. This worked perfectly for us so each of our boys could have their own – and believe me, they were really excited to have their own little nook to keep things in. My favorite use for it is to store their cups within their reach, because we are always having to turn around and hand them their cup from the van’s cup holders.

The first day of using the Kiddie Catch-All the boys took theirs off a couple of times, and I do think it would be great if there were a way to clamp the baskets on a little more securely. It didn’t take long for them to leave the baskets on their seats, because they really liked having the access to store things. It was especially nice to have these on a recent road trip!

You can purchase your own at Amazon or at the Kiddie Catch-All site – but guess what?

One reader will win their own pair of Kiddie Catch-Alls! This contest is open to all U.S. residents. Entries will be accepted until the end of the day (midnight CST) April 7.

Mandatory Entry: Comment below telling me what you would store in your Kiddie Catch-Alls!

(Only valid after the required entry has been completed)

Please leave a comment for each extra entry – if you blog about this giveaway and get 3 entries, for example, comment 3 times.

Note: Kiddie Catch-All provided me with two units to review, and is providing two for the giveaway. Any opinions provided are honest and my own.

Today’s Challenge: How You Relax

I think any mom will agree that it’s a challenge to find any time for ourselves – especially to relax. On a daily basis, I relax in the evenings by hanging out with Brian and watching some of our favorite shows, or by playing a board game. Here are a couple of my favorite ways to relax:

• Pedicures: Brian does not understand the appeal of this, but pedicures are a huge treat for me. I love sitting quietly in a massage chair, and I love the end effect of pretty toes and soft feet! I try to do at-home pedicures most often to save money, but there’s just nothing like being pampered – a do-it-yourself thing just can’t compare. Those are mine and my sister-in-law’s feet, by the way! I’m on the left with my crooked second toes. :)

• Massages: I mentioned loving the massage chairs at nail salons above – massages are actually my ultimate favorite way to relax, but going and getting one is a very rare treat since they’re pretty pricey. Brian is amazingly wonderful about giving me back rubs, and for Valentine’s Day he got me this awesome shiatsu massage cushion. It is SO good and I use it almost every single day – it’s definitely a lot cheaper than going and getting massages, too.

• Magazines: Hi, I’m Christi, and I’m a magazine-aholic. I used to be tempted to buy at registers all the time, but then figured out it’s a LOT cheaper to get subscriptions, so I have several that I get each month. I can’t explain why, but it’s a huge treat to just sprawl out on the couch or our bed and read a magazine. My favorite is Real Simple– it makes me happy!

How do you like to relax?

Fibers.com Review & Giveaway

I love making custom items, from painting my own pottery to designing the boys’ birthday invitations or our family’s Christmas cards – so it came as no surprise that I really enjoyed using Fibers.com system to create custom t-shirts. When I got the chance to do a review, I had Brian draw a Lego brick and then used that to design the tees. I’m actually surprised he didn’t want to do four family t-shirts all with the Lego design. :)

The control panel for the site is very user-friendly. As you can see in the screen shot below, you’re able to add images, photos and other effects. You can pick which product you want to apply your design to, and there is a large variety to choose from.

I had a little bit of difficulty figuring out how to get my image to upload initially, but was really pleased to find out they had a live chat option. The person I chatted with helped me immediately and I was able to get the image to upload correctly. I think this is a great feature because then you’re not having to hunt for help; the customer service representative guides you to where you need to be.

We received our shirts in about 7 days and were really happy with the finished product:

The ink really pops off of the shirt and the printing is well-done. The boys both LOVED their shirts and have worn them several times since we got them!

What would you make YOUR shirt say? Well, I hope you have an idea because one of you is going to win a $30 gift certificate to Fibers.com! This contest is open to all U.S. residents. Entries will be accepted until the end of the day (midnight CST) Wednesday, April 6.

Mandatory Entry: Like I asked above – what would you make your custom shirt say? Comment below letting me know!

(Only valid after the required entry has been completed)

Please leave a comment for each extra entry – if you blog about this giveaway and get 3 entries, for example, comment 3 times.

Note: Fibers.com provided me with a gift certificate to purchase products for review, and is providing the gift certificate for the giveaway. Any opinions provided are honest and my own.
