Today’s Challenge: How You Relax

I think any mom will agree that it’s a challenge to find any time for ourselves – especially to relax. On a daily basis, I relax in the evenings by hanging out with Brian and watching some of our favorite shows, or by playing a board game. Here are a couple of my favorite ways to relax:

• Pedicures: Brian does not understand the appeal of this, but pedicures are a huge treat for me. I love sitting quietly in a massage chair, and I love the end effect of pretty toes and soft feet! I try to do at-home pedicures most often to save money, but there’s just nothing like being pampered – a do-it-yourself thing just can’t compare. Those are mine and my sister-in-law’s feet, by the way! I’m on the left with my crooked second toes. :)

• Massages: I mentioned loving the massage chairs at nail salons above – massages are actually my ultimate favorite way to relax, but going and getting one is a very rare treat since they’re pretty pricey. Brian is amazingly wonderful about giving me back rubs, and for Valentine’s Day he got me this awesome shiatsu massage cushion. It is SO good and I use it almost every single day – it’s definitely a lot cheaper than going and getting massages, too.

• Magazines: Hi, I’m Christi, and I’m a magazine-aholic. I used to be tempted to buy at registers all the time, but then figured out it’s a LOT cheaper to get subscriptions, so I have several that I get each month. I can’t explain why, but it’s a huge treat to just sprawl out on the couch or our bed and read a magazine. My favorite is Real Simple– it makes me happy!

I totally understand your magazine love, and the first time you open it is the best! I also love pedicures, but massages…not so much.

I’m that way with bubble baths – I do NOT understand the appeal of sitting in a tub of water getting all pruny, but all of my friends love relaxing w/ a bath!

I’m right there with you on the pedicures and massage chairs! I *try* to go every 2 weeks, but I at least get there once a month.

I like how you define yourself as a “magazine-aholic”. It is a term appropriate with me, too, although I’m more literature-aholic because I like to relax sitting on a sofa and reading a book.

Oh, I JUST got my husband almost the same massager… I think yours is the next step up because on his, you can’t choose the ball’s width or keep it in one place. I did miraculously pick mine up for 49.99 instead of 110.99 because it was marked wrong ;D

Have you ever read <– ready made magazine? I love it! It's full of indie projects and can sometimes be pretentious but it's fun.

I do love ReadyMade! I agree with you about the pretentiousness but I overlook it because there are some awesome project ideas in there! A site you’ll probably love (if you haven’t already discovered it) is – there are SO many projects there I want to tackle eventually!
