For those of you that aren’t familiar with the challenge, the idea is to post 31 days of photos based on a prompt that is provided. You can also share a story to go along with the photo. I’m on day 8 and today’s challenge is:
A Birthday Celebration
Since C’s 2nd birthday is coming up next month (which seems unreal, by the way) I thought I’d share photos of his 1st birthday. We decided to have a car theme and to do the party as inexpensively as possible.
I made a banner by printing out vehicle shapes that matched his invitation – I put one letter on each shape, then hung them from grosgrain ribbon strung across our window.
The great thing about planning a party around things your child loves is that you probably already have things around the house that will work for decor. We made our centerpiece using a glass container filled with colorful cars:
I made the cake and smash cake. The main cake was a car, which I just carved out the shape of. I did not, however, think about there needing to be space under the car… so we ended up with a low-rider. Whoops! :) Brian thought of using Oreos for the wheels – I thought that was a great idea (and much easier than trying to pipe out convincing looking tires).
The smash cake was a stop sign. It was much easier to do, and I thought it was fun to go along with the theme of the party:
We haven’t figured out what theme he’ll want for this year yet but I can’t wait to get started planning. It’s a lot of fun to create things from scratch and I hope one day the boys will look back on their birthdays with a lot of great memories!
Everything was so cute! I love the colorful cars in the bowl. What a great (yet simple) idea for a centerpiece!
The stop sign cake is too cute lol Simple enough too! Love it
