If you’re anywhere around my age (I’ll be 30 this year), you probably remember slap bracelets with some sense of nostalgia. My friends and I loved them, collected them, and wore them in stacks on our wrists.

When I heard about the Slap Watch, I was intrigued by the concept… little did I know how much I’d love these watches! We got to review the orange and gray watches. These are silicone watches that have the framing of slap bracelets you’ll remember from the 90’s. The silicone cover makes these bracelets really comfortable, and they’re perfect for men and women alike! I wore the gray one and Brian’s been wearing the orange, and we’ll switch back and forth. J has worn Brian’s some – he thinks it is so cool! I love the way they look – nice and simple. I’ll wear mine to work all the time!

The only negative about this watch is that the band can get a little sweaty on really hot days. The silicone is easy to dry off, but I would still probably not wear this watch out to jog – although it’s very comfortable, the sweat factor would bother me. I think this watch is great for milder weather or for indoor use.

A feature that makes these watches even more unique is that the faces are interchangeable – so between the two watches, we have four possible combinations! I want to order more watches to try some of the other color combos. Check out how the two we got can transform:

If you’re looking for a unique Father’s Day gift, I think getting these would be a great idea! Not to mention the fact that you might want to wear one yourself. :) There are nine colors available, so 81 options total:

Note: I received two watches for the purpose of writing this review. I was not compensated monetarily. All opinions provided are honest and are my own.

    Hello!
I too was one of those kids who collected the slap bracelets! I just saw these the other day on Ellen (probably a re-run) and I wanted to order a couple. But I was wondering if you too saw when you went to the checkout that it said JR. watch, eventhough I clicked on the not JR. size watches? Just wondering if you still purchased them that way or if what? It says JR. watch beside description whether you click on either one.
I wrote a quick email to the company to see, as I do not want the JR. size, and I saw the blog tab and just thought maybe you went through the same thing??

    Thanks, much!!

Hi Christan! The company sent me the watches, so I hadn’t dealt with their checkout before. I just went now and tried, though, and it wasn’t saying JR watch in the cart. I scrolled down on the main page to find the color of watch I liked, then clicked that to make the purchase; you might try going about it that way, if you haven’t already. I know the JR watches are slimmer, so I’d want to make sure I was getting the one I wanted! (PS, we still love our slap watches and I’m planning to order more soon.)

I have a quick question… I can’t tell from any of the pictures online if the back is entirely silicone? I ask because my children are allergic to metal, and the metal backing of watch faces against their skin leads to allergic reactions.

Does the metal back of the face case come in contact with the wrist? Or is it a completely flat surface of silicon from one end to the other on the inside of the watch?

Also, the pictures of the Jr. size on the Slap Watch website make it look as though there is some cheap plasticy shiny material on the inside of those, instead of silicone. Has anyone purchased a Slap Watch Jr.? And can you tell me if it made the same as the adult ones (entirely out of silicone)? Thanks!

    • Christi July 20, 2011 at 2:09 pm

Hi Amy! Thanks for your question. The back is entirely silicone – the metal just slips inside the circular part around the face, but it’s backed entirely by the silicone. Now, I haven’t purchased a Jr. watch so I can’t answer that question for you but I’d assume it would be the same material. I will say that my boys are 2 and (almost) 4, and the regular size watch is big on their arms, although they still like to wear my watch around anyway. :)

Christy, How did you receive two watches for the purpose of writing a review? Did you purchase on line from SLAP to get that deal? Just curious.

    Thanks

    • Christi July 28, 2011 at 1:51 pm

Hi Joanne! The company sent me two watches for review purposes. If I purchase an item and then review it on my blog, you’ll usually see me mention in a note at the end of the post that I didn’t receive any sort of product in conjunction with my review.

      • Joanne July 28, 2011 at 2:12 pm

So, does that mean you purchase one (1) slap watch first from them and then you reviewed it in your blog (about the watch), then they sent you 2 watches? OR you started a blog and reviewed it, and the company sent you 2 watches complimentary? Kind of confused.

        Thanks,
        Jo

        • Christi July 28, 2011 at 2:26 pm

Sorry for the confusion, Joanne! I did not purchase anything. The company sent me two watches (at no cost to me) so that I could review them on my blog. I received the watches, then wrote the review. Are you looking to do reviews? If there’s something specific I can help you with figuring out, let me know.

I’d like to do the same as you! How would I go about that?

            Thanks

          • Christi July 29, 2011 at 9:27 am

It takes a lot of work, I won’t lie! First you need to create a blog – figure out what you really like to write about and what you could write about for a long time. Build your audience, network with other people online, and provide a good archive of content. Then you can start contacting companies to see about having them work with you. It takes a lot of time, effort and commitment but it is a lot of fun, too!

  • Joanne July 30, 2011 at 1:32 am

Wow! Thanks for the response. Sounds like alot of effort! Thanks again!

Those slap on watches are sick!

  • Ron August 11, 2012 at 7:05 am

I’ve got a thin wrist and larger manly watches look pretty silly when on. Is the Jr mainly for kids or possibly women or are both the Jr and regular unisex? I guess I am asking, can I guy wear a Jr?

    • Christi August 12, 2012 at 10:36 pm

I think the Jr. might look a little thin, but if that’s a style you typically wear then you’d probably be happy with it. I will say the regular band isn’t too awfully big so you might be happy with that.

I live in Africa and i absolutely love the slap watches. One problem though, the faces pop out! I have lost 2 faces already. About 5 times they popped out and i picked them up. How can they be secured coz i am left with 4 faces out of a total of 6. They are the best thing ever though!
