As I get older, it becomes more and more important to me to be health conscious. It seems like it’s more common to talk about various awareness campaigns for conditions – I see posts on Facebook all the time for things like cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes. I don’t know if I see it a lot because my friends are getting older too, or if there really is just a rise in health awareness overall.
We have a friend who started developing diabetes symptoms a while back – he has since taken control of his health, gotten in shape, and now he doesn’t have the symptoms any more! It was an inspiration to me that we can all take action to be healthier people.

My mom was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so that was kind of a wake up call to me to eat less sugars and breads, and more veggies and whole grains. Additionally, since I just had a baby girl, I’ve been trying to be more aware of my caloric intake in general, and use various fitness websites to help me learn what is actually going in my body. Eating healthy is definitely a journey, that’s for sure!
I’m a nurse and most of the problems people have are related to lifestyle. People don’t always want to take responsibility for their actions and choices, then expect our health care system to fix it all when things go wrong. Yikes, I could just go on for hours!
