Partner with HEB & ConAgra to Make Sure Child Hunger Ends Here

Note: I am participating in a compensated campaign for ConAgra Foods and The Motherhood. All opinions are honest and are entirely my own; I truly believe this campaign is crucial and that we should all get involved to help end child hunger.

Children_Eating_Lunch Childhood is a time in life that you’re allowed to be carefree and responsibility-free (except for those few pesky chores mom & dad might make you do). It is not a time you’re supposed to be constantly hungry, wondering when your next meal might be. The sad fact is that more than 1 in 5 children in the U.S. may not know where their next meal is coming from – that’s nearly 16 million hungry children out there.

I know how hard it is for me as an adult to function when I even just have to skip lunch; I can’t imagine how hard it is for kids. Children who experience even intermittent struggles with hunger may suffer serious, long-term consequences to their health, well-being and educational achievement. What’s more, being hungry robs kids of the promise of childhood – the ability to play, grow and learn.

ChildHungerEndsHere

ConAgra Foods finds this unacceptable, and has partnered with P&G for the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign – they want to build a community of people to make a difference and help donate up to 7 million meals. There are several ways you can get involved in this important cause:

  • Enter Codes to Trigger Donations. It’s easy to make a difference: Look for the red pushpin on participating product packaging for a code found on these specially marked ConAgra Foods and P&G products. For each 8-digit code entered at www.ChildHungerEndsHere.com from March-August 2014, ConAgra Foods or P&G, respectively, will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America.
  • Join the Community and Get Involved. One of the easiest ways to learn how to get involved is to join the Child Hunger Ends Here Facebook community or follow the news on Twitter and Instagram at @ChildHungerEnds.
  • Local Texas Donations. ConAgra Foods and P&G are donating an additional 100,000 meals to local Texas food banks on behalf of H-E-B, in appreciation for their partnership to end child hunger.

We have an H-E-B near us that we shop at every week, and one of our favorite parts of shopping there is the deals we can find. There’ve been so many times I’m shopping for something like shredded cheese, and I’ll find a coupon that gets me freebies for purchasing the cheese I was already planning to buy! What’s even better is that right now some of these great H-E-B deals can also work for code entries to trigger donations. If you live near an H-E-B, be sure and check out these deals for ConAgra Foods products & P&G products that are eligible for Child Hunger Ends Here code entries. Some of these end next week, so be sure to head to H-E-B soon:

We don’t have HEB stores here in New England, but it’s fantastic that they are raising awareness for this important cause!

  • Kelsey Apley May 28, 2014 at 10:25 am

I have never heard of a HEB store, but it sounds like a great program they are offering! I know local schools here in KS are offering free lunches daily all summer to children, they don’t have to qualify it is just open to all.

  • Jennifer Soltys May 28, 2014 at 10:53 am

I don’t think we have any HEB stores, but what a great program. I love hearing about companies that do things like this!

Hunger is a real issue in the Summer Months for a lot of children. People don’t realize it but there are so many children on Free or Reduced Breakfast and Lunch at School that have no where to turn when school is out during the summer. It is a really sad issue that sadly most people are unaware of just how many families face hunger on a daily basis.

It is great that HEB and ConAgra have joined together to help such a worthy cause!

What a great program. I can really support a company that gives back.

I love this and programs that support kids and the less fortunate.

It is so sad that children are hungry, my kids do not realize how blessed they are. This is a great cause, thank you for sharing.

  • Dawn Lopez May 28, 2014 at 3:24 pm

It is really sad that 1 in 5 kids have to worry about being hungry and the fact of the matter is this issue is not that widely known about in our own country! Anything that helps bring attention to this ongoing issue and programs that work to help end the hunger are wonderful in my book.

My mom lived in Texas for a while and she still brings up HEB since moving back here. She loved the huge choice of cheeses. She was hooked on the fresh hand made tortillas. And evidently they had flan no one could resist.

    • Christi May 28, 2014 at 8:46 pm

The cheese selection and homemade tortillas are two of my favorite things about HEB, too! I always end up with a random wedge of cheese for us to taste test. And our store does free tortilla samples, which the kids adore! :)

This is such a fantastic program. It’s great that these companies have come together to help this cause.

  • Amy D May 28, 2014 at 5:59 pm

I think it is great that a multimillion dollar company is doing their part to help this tragic issue! You’d think that America would nit have hungry kids but they do! I seen it so much as a teacher!!

  • Brandy M. May 28, 2014 at 6:09 pm

Recently we were in an HEB for the first time and I couldn’t get over how clean their store was. Certainly a chain I wish we had in Colorado.

I like seeing that these two have partnered together for such a worthy cause, I can’t get over that 1 in 5 children have to worry about going hungry.

  • Amber Edwards May 28, 2014 at 6:41 pm

I wish we had HEB stores in our area. I love this initiative to help end child hunger.

  • Janel May 28, 2014 at 6:42 pm

  • Tammi @ My Organized Chaos May 28, 2014 at 7:19 pm

What a great program, I love when companies do this – I have a lot of resect for them. Plus, this cause is near and dear to my heart, I’m very involved in other programs to make sure kids are nourished. Way to go!

  • Amy Desrosiers May 28, 2014 at 8:06 pm

Awesome that such a large company is helping to combat childhood hunger!

  • Emily @ Baby Dickey May 28, 2014 at 8:24 pm

So sad, this is a great cause! A few weeks ago my kids helped me pick out food at the store and then helped me deliver it to a local non-profit that helps kids in need. I will check out this program, too!

  • Jennifer May 28, 2014 at 8:29 pm

Darn no HEB stores in my neck of the woods. Preventing childhood hunger is a cause near and dear to my heart. I am always looking for the Conagra codes to enter online.

  • Liz Mays May 29, 2014 at 1:35 am

I really love all that ConAgra does for child hunger. This program is fabulous.

We have an HEB right down the street and I have been keeping my eyes opened for the logo… plus I have been entering codes as I find them :)

  • Nancy @ Whispered Inspirations May 29, 2014 at 11:59 pm

I LOVE my local HEB and love that they partner with brands to give back to the community.

  • Stella August 21, 2014 at 11:49 am

Thank you for supporting this fantastic program! I love putting in the code each day to send meals to hungry children! How horrible it would be to not know if one would have food or not!

    • Christi August 27, 2014 at 9:17 pm

So true, Stella. Especially when I look at my own children and imagine kids their ages going without food!
