You love your dog, don’t you? I know we sure love ours! Since it’s National Dog Week I’m especially thinking about how thankful I am for Sally & Ninja. They’re a part of our family and they are completely loyal and loving to us. And you know what? It’s incredibly easy to make your pups happy and thank them for all the love they give.
According to the 2015 Beneful National Dog Week survey, activities that dog owners believe make their dogs happiest are:
- Eating dog treats (96%)
- Mealtime (90%)
- Chewing a dog bone (87%)
- Going on walks (86%)
- Snuggling (84%)
- Playing fetch (74%)
- Riding in the car (71%)
- Going to the dog park (56%)
- Running/jogging with someone (55%)
- Being brushed/groomed (48%)
The bond between dogs and owners is undeniably strong, and often surpasses dog owners’ relationships with other friends and family. Some other findings from the Beneful survey:
- Four-legged family members: Nearly all (96%) of respondents agree that their dog is part of their family.
- BFFs: More than eight-in-10 dog owners surveyed (82%) agree that their dog is one of their best friends.
- More insightful than humans?: Nearly six-in-10 (58%) of respondents agree their dog understands them like no human could.
- Interestingly, female dog owners feel an even stronger connection with their dogs than their male counterparts. Two-thirds (64%) of women surveyed agree their dogs understand them like no human could, compared to just 50% of men.

NOTHING makes my dog happier than when he gets a treat. I think in honor of National Dog Week, I will make him some homemade ones :)
Our fur babies are definitely a part of our family. They are spoiled and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
I miss having a dog and hope to have one again soon. My old dog LOVED the car and running after his ball. He loved his treats and can’t wait to start it all over again.
I need to do something for Max. He loves to play fetch, but he hasn’t quite got the part down of returning the ball. He brings it back and then runs from us when we try to get the ball. :)
Well I guess I need to make my dogs a cake? lol I love my 2 dogs and feel I know them better than my hubby.
I agree whole heartedly with this post. WE lost our dog earlier this year due to poisoning and today, we got a new puppy. I can’t wait to form a bond with her
I definitely agree with all of these “happy dog” comments on your top ten list. Our dog is almost 10 years old so she isn’t as energetic anymore, but loves cuddles, hikes, and of course, riding in the car. Dogs are the best!
It’s a good week to treat your dog to an at-home vacation! Plenty of good dog food is required!
I don’t have any dogs, I have cats! But I still definitely love me some puppies and dogs! And I love National Dog Week!
Awwww…I didn’t know it was National Dog day!! If I had I would have given my Sophie girl a shout out on my blog. HA!
Awww I LOVE that Smile and the pearly whote of teeth. Sally and Ninja are beautiful names!
My fur baby is so affectionate that he loves to sit beside me on the sofa with his head resting on my thigh. At times he feels like he is the alpha male in the house, of course only when its bright and sunny outside. He’s terrified of thunder! I give him as much attention as I give all members of the family. Dogs are just pure love!
Such a cute little pooch! My little gal loves a good trip to the dog park… her tail starts thumping as soon as she sees the road! Which is crazy since she doesn’t like playing with other dogs, just running around playing fetch by herself… in which case what’s the difference between a dog park and a park? Either way love the little fur ball!
Our rescue dog LOVES to ride in the car. It is defiantly a special treat for him. We love seeing him so exited!
I am a dog owner and my dog is part of our family :) strong relationship and love!
Your dog is adorable. I bought extra treats for my fur babies. They are going to be spoiled for a week.
Your playing with your dog, that is cute <3 I have a friend whose have a dog and she is also celebrating national dog.
I love to take my dogs for a walk. They enjoy it and I love making them happy!
My dogs love treats. They are oh so spoiled. I make them homemade treats often, and they just love them. I think love and cuddles makes them happiest, but they do love treats! Your pup is adorable!
My Sister has two little dogs. They are like her babies. She makes them treats from scratch.
I will admit I use to think people were crazy when it came to their dogs. Then we got one! I wouldn’t say he is my baby but sometimes I think he is more work than my kids! We do feel like he is part of our family and I am very glad we got him even if he turned out to be twice as big as we originally thought he would be.
Nothing makes my dogs happier then when they get a treat. I have a small dog and a large dog. My cat likes treats too. They are all spoiled rotten.
We have three super spoiled fur babies. They have been instrumental to me bc they take my mind off my chronic pain. Just their happy go lucky attitude, can make ne smile. Not that my husband or family can’t. Dogs just have that natural 6th sense.
Every week is dog week in our house! With 4 dogs in our home, you know we love our pets! The dogs are just 4 legged members of our family!
How did I miss that it’s National Dog week? My bullmastiff is my angel, and she definitely makes my life better. Great post!
I feel like such a bad ‘mom’…I knew it was National Dog Week and I didn’t do anything special for my little guy! However, he got a ton of treats and cuddles…as always!
Great stats! We feed Beniful and Iams, love them both and our dogs love their treats!!
What a cute dog! I love the stats you provided about when dogs are the happiest! I couldn’t imagine life without my sweet little dog!
Growing up we had pets but I don’t really remember. Now my kids keep asking me for a dog.
