Our boys love Skylanders. They had the original game, then Swap Force, then Trap Team… and they couldn’t wait to try Skylanders SuperChargers… so I pretty much became mom #1 when I told them I needed them to try the game out for my holiday gift guide!
The main difference you’ll notice right off the bat is that there are now vehicles included in the game. SuperCharger Skylanders are elite heroes specially trained to pilot the most powerful vehicles in Skylands. Match SuperChargers with their unique signature vehicle to unleash the ultimate experience. Explore Skylands using a fleet of powerful vehicles to drive, sail or fly across Land, Sea and Sky. You can upgrade your vehicles by customizing them with awesome new mods. We got the WiiU version which came with Donkey Kong, which adds another fun aspect to the game (you can convert him to be an amiibo, too, which is genius).
With the WiiU version there are aspects that work on the GamePad, such as browsing through menus.
Since there are vehicles involved, it allows room for levels with racing, which is right up our kids’ alley. They both had a blast with the game, and it provided hours of fun.

Our verdict is this: overall, the boys say this is definitely a game other kids would want for Christmas – especially if they already like other Skylanders games. The vehicles are the main difference we noticed, which is a big draw for many kids. As a parent, I like that the Nintendo characters can be used as amiibos, because it extends the usefulness of the characters, giving you more bang for your buck.
